About The Star Stitch
The crochet star stitch is a beautiful and unique crochet stitch. I love how it looks added to a project or on its own. An entire towel or blanket in this stitch would be absolutely stunning. I love playing around with different crochet stitches. There are so many different types of crochet stitches out there; the possibilities are endless! The star stitch is definitely one of the most unique crochet stitches. It creates a pretty star shape, adding a lovely texture to any crochet project.
The stitch is easy once you get used to how it works. Follow this step-by-step tutorial with photos to learn how to crochet the star stitch.

Star Stitch Crochet Tutorial With Pictures.
Start with an odd number of chains and sc in the second chain from the hook to begin your foundation row. You will now have an even number of stitches while working the star stitch.
Step 1: Chain 2
Insert the hook into the front loop of the second chain from your hook (front loop of the chain 2 you just made), yarn over, and pull up a loop. Insert the hook into the back loop of the same chain, yarn over, and pull up a loop.
The arrows in the image show where to insert your hook and pull up loops in the chain 2 space.
After this step, you will now have three loops on your hook; see the image below.
Step 2: Pull up loops in the next three stitches
Insert hook, yarn over, and pull up a loop in the next three stitches. You will now have six loops on your hook.
Step 3: Pull yarn through all of the loops and chain 1.
Yarn over, and pull through all six loops on your hook. Chain 1.
Step 4: Pull up the next 5 loops
The arrows indicate where to insert your hook and pull-up loops in all additional star stitches across the row.
Insert your hook, yarn over, and pull up a loop in every stitch with an arrow in the picture above. You will now have six loops on your hook (see image below).
The loops will be pulled up in the following stitches:
Insert the hook into chain 1 space you just made, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Insert the hook into the front loop of the last leg of the star stitch just made, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Insert the hook into the stitch that the last leg of the star stitch is through, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Insert hook, yarn over, and pull up a loop in the next two stitches.
Step 5: Yarn over and pull through all loops and chain 1.
Yarn over and pull through all loops on your hook. Chain 1.
Step 6: Wrong side of work.
The arrow indicates where to work your Sc stitches in the next row. (The eye of the star stitch).
Chain 1 and turn work. 1 sc in the first stitch, 1 sc in the eye of the first star stitch (the chain 1 space), 2 sc in every star stitch eye across the row, and 1 sc in the last stitch. [53]
Keep Practicing!
The star stitch can be a bit tricky to learn. It takes some getting used to figuring out where to insert your hook to pull up the loops. If you keep practicing, it becomes easier and easier, and it's worth it for the stunning finished result!
