About TheTriple Crochet Stitch
The US triple crochet stitch is also sometimes called a US treble crochet or a UK Double treble crochet. I know it can be very confusing with the different terms for crochet stitches. Make sure to check your pattern to confirm whether the pattern is written in US or UK terms. I've made that mistake more times than I can count!
The triple crochet stitch, abbreviated tr, is a taller version of a US double crochet stitch. This crochet stitch requires an additional yarn over at the beginning and an additional step at the end to achieve the taller stitch.
The triple crochet stitch is great for when you want a tall stitch in a project. Sometimes patterns will call for just a few rows of triple crochet in a project to add a lace effect, or the entire project will be worked in the triple crochet stitch. because the stitch is so tall, it makes projects go really quickly!
Follow the crochet stitch tutorial below to learn how to crochet the US triple crochet stitch in 6 easy steps.

How To Triple Crochet Stitch: Photo Tutorial
Follow the crochet tutorial below to learn how to crochet the triple crochet stitch.
Step 1: Yarn over twice
Yarn over by wrapping the working yarn around the crochet hook two times. The yarn will wrap from behind the hook over the top. See the image above for how this will look on your hook.
Step 2: Insert the hook into the next stitch and yarn over.
Insert the crochet hook under both loops of the next stitch. Make sure the hook passes under both the front loop and the back loop. Then, yarn over. Just like you did in the first step, the yarn will wrap from behind the hook over the top of the hook.
Step 3: Pull the yarn through the stitch
Pull the yarn that was yarned over in the previous step through both loops of the stitch that your hook is inserted through. You will now have four loops on your crochet hook.
Step 4: Yarn over and pull through two loops on your hook.
Yarn over by wrapping the working yarn around the back of the crochet hook over the top. Then pull through two loops on the hook. Do not pull the yarn through all of the loops, just the first two. You will now have three loops on the hook.
Step 5: Yarn over and pull through two loops on your hook again.
Repeat step 4 by yarning over and pulling through the first two loops on the hook. You will now have two loops left on the hook.
Step 6: Yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook for a third time.
Repeat step four again by yarning over and pulling the yarn through the last two loops on the hook. You have now completed a triple crochet stitch.
Keep Practicing!
Learning a new crochet stitch takes a lot of practice and patience. Keep repeating the steps above to complete the triple crochet stitch until you feel comfortable with the process. Eventually, you won't even have to think about the triple crochet stitch; it will just come naturally. It's all about muscle memory!
